The day I lost my virginity ( 75 Views)

written by : rogers-monda

The day I lost my virginity

By Rogers Monda, Nairobi

Today I lost my virginity
The pain felt infinity
Trust after thrust I was pieced
My cries camouflaged by the drum beats outside
Blood, gruesome sight
No saint came to absolve my plight

There were ululations
Hiding my tribulations
Pain unrelenting
The circumciser unrelenting

Tomorrow they will continue to celebrate
My being a woman
But I will continue to moan
My lost virginity

On this riverbank, by this reeds
I opened my legs to their demands
Blade sharp and poised against a landing soft
As the water caresses the rocks
I became a true African woman
Trusted African culture
That led to the loss of my clitoris without suture

I sit and stare into the future
The day after I lost my virginity
I see my husband heaving and puffing
Heads of sweat tearing down his back
But since I lost my virginity
I do not feel a thing
He screams loud to the gods of the rivers
And I wonder why
For I lost my virginity to the circumcisers’ knife.
